Final Screenplay for group Alex,Louis,Paula

Meeting 18/11/2013

Team Production Meeting
Alex Purvis, Paula Perez and Louis Davis were in this meeting.
Script Choice
We have chosen to do Louis’ script as its easier to film and more realistic.
We are going to take parts from the other two scripts as they’ve got some interesting bits that we thought we should add on to it.
Louis and Alex’s friend will be acting in the film.
This film will be filmed at Long Road. It will me filmed round mid day.
The effects used in this film will be achievable as its not too professional to do.
We believe this script will be the easiest because it looks easier and you don’t need a teacher or a mother to act.
Louis is acting and sound effects
Alex is directing
Paula is the editor
We will al be doing the after effects together.

Miss Barlow

Miss Barlow came from a lovely place in Scotland called Greenock. She was born in the year of 1996, has long ginger hair, 5ft 8, single, and very happy. Her parents also came from Scotland and are both happily married living in the same house they brought their daughter up in. She loves poetry and classical music. Poetry was the reason why she got into teaching. She went to the best university in Scotland then moved to England to find a teaching job.

She came to the school at the age of 30 and has been here ever since. Miss Barlow is a friendly person with a fun attitude. She has made friends with all the teachers and loves romance. She is waiting for Mr right to marry her but has no luck yet.

Power of the mind first Draft

Ruby's Bio

Ruby is a lovely, kind girl. She was born on September the 14th in Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Her parents Harry and Lola came from England and seem very nice and polite. Her mums very beautiful and that's where she gets her looks from.

I know she loves every type of music, Pop, Jazz, Classical and even Electric Progressions. Her favourite book would have to be Beautiful Creatures as its based on romance and that's what she is into. For Tv I would have to say she likes Dr Who and Dynamo because she likes excitement buts also into magic as well.

She has many friends as she seems quite popular around school. She has recently spit up with her boyfriend for some relation issues. She gets her beautiful looks from her Mother (Lola). She has gorgeous long ginger hair, cute smile, green eyes and is about 5ft 7.

When she was younger she was watching TV when she saw the horrible disater in Godmanchester which scared her for life.

Jasper's Bio

Jasper was born on August 31st 1994 in a great little town called Godmanchester next to a huge nuclear power plant which supplies power for me and the surrounding towns/cities. He used to live in a great cosy house until the tragic disaster where the power plant over heated and his house was contaminated.

He had the nicest's of parents called Sally and Ted who came from a beautiful place in Ireland where they moved from to have Jasper. Sadly they both died in the contamination. For some great reason Jasper survived the disaster and was clear of any signs of health problems, but the funny thing was that the doctors said he was in better condition after the disaster than before.

From what I know Jasper listens to all kinds of music for example The Script, Take That, Arctic Monkeys, Hip Hop, Jazz, POP, tones of stuff. It may differ as I'm not very sure because he was very secretive and Shy. He doesn't really watch TV or read books as he just sits in his room by himself listening to music.

He is about my height 5ft 9/10, very nice black hair, green eyes and where's black Timberland glasses. I believe Jasper doesn't really have any friends as he doesn't socialise much.

P1. Research into Recording Foley Sound and Sound Effects

A Foley artist is someone who creates a sound effect using improvised materials such as leeks and pad mats to create a bone breaking fall. They are needed because some sounds cannot be captured by sound recorders or don't exist. Foley artist create theses sounds for them. They are also used because they are cheaper than creating all sounds from scratch. They are professional sound FX makers.
Anything that moves on the screen the Foley artist provides sound for.

First the Foley artist covers all the footsteps for the main characters then the background footsteps. After recording this they record anything that moves in the film. It can be described like big canvas of sounds and they paint many different colours and textures.

To be a Foley artist you need good timing and a huge creative mind because your thrown in a huge room full of random stuff to create theses specific sounds. If you use real sound instead of using digital productive sounds you can control the elements to create the best sound needed. If you create your own sound you don't need to worry about copyright issues.

In Star Wars the sound recorder Ben Burtt would go around the world collecting different sounds (real animals, radio station wires, and so on) to create theses realistic sounds for the film. The TIE fighter sound from Star Wars came from an altered Elephant bellow.

Research into Recording Ambient Sounds and Dialogue

Recording Ambient Sound
Ambient sound recording is the recording of background sound during filming scenes. Each location has a different ambient (background) sound which has to be captured by the sound recorders to be used in film. An example of this would be from Hunger Games: Catching Fire where the sound recorder went to the amazon jungle to record the natural background (ambient) noise to use for their shots. They also recorded the sounds of the beach and the waves coming into shore. The final example of an ambient sound the obtained by the sound recorder is also from the Amazon. The recorded sound is of a Baboon family which is used in the scene when they fight the Baboon's.

Hard cuts aren't used when combining ambient sounds because the sound was suddenly stop then start again for a different clip which would confuse the viewer. Another reason for why hard cuts aren't used would be because its more common to use ambient sounds to establish the next scene. The advantages of recording on scene are the fact that it feels more realistic (sounds realistic). It saves you time searching up non copyright music (sounds). The program used in Hunger Games for managing sounds is Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is a programme where you can manage sound quality and levels in high detail.

Recording Dialogue
When recording dialogue its crucial to get the microphone as close as possible to get the best quality possible. Looping is when an actor re-record his voice while watching their original performance in a loop. When ambient noise is important when filming conversation scenes because a good sound recorder would expect the sound levels to be the same. This can be done by recording the ambient sound in the same room as the character speaking. Also it gives the listeners a realistic feel, like there in that room with them.

Location shooting can be difficult for shooting dialogue because you could have a distinct location where it is impossible to use hidden microphones. To overcome this problem you could buy portable microphones and hide them either on the character or close to where the actor is performing.

Notes for Hunger games video
1: Recorded sounds of the Amazon jungle and ocean for more realistic feel.
2: Microphones 70-feet from each other.
3: Different microphones - same location, creates different sounds.
4: Ambient can guide you into the next scene.
5: Creates a surrounding feeling - like in the jungle.
5: The use of Dolby Atmos - High def sound.
6: Only use hard cuts for effect or reason.
7: Adding in background noises the scene.
8: Sound can establish the next scene before you see it.
Notes
http://www.askaudiomag.com/articles/tips-recoding-sound-location
1: Room Tone - The film crew is asked to be completely still while the audio engineer records 30 seconds of "room tone." It's just the ambient noise of a location.
2: The use of an external mic to record ambient sound/dialogue.
3: Location noises could disturb the film e.g. refrigerator or fan.
4. Use of headphones when recording.
5: Use blankets to cover up sounds from outside to capture indoor ambient sounds.
Notes
http://www.lavideofilmmaker.com/location-sound-recording/location-sound-recording-shotgun-microphone-placement.html
1: Choose the right microphone for the right job.
2: The direction of the microphone can determine the quality if the sound.
3: Microphone should be as close to the mouth as possible.
4: Shoot several takes of the set-up.
5: Record 30 seconds of ambient.
6. Make sure the boom operator doesn't move.
7: Don't settle for on board microphone.
8: Get the levels of the sound correct.

1: The name "looping" refers to what often happens: actors re-record their lines while watching their original performances in looped playback.

P1. COMPOSING FOR FILM

5 points on how to compose music for a film
1. Know what the director wants
2. List of referable materials
3. Avoid music cliché's
4. Experiment
5. KEEP the director updated

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-L1RCtgtoE#t=213
The key element they both wanted is that it had to be the key sound of the joker. He would send Hans still shots of the joker and things related so he could get the feel of the music and start to come up with ideas. Hans used sounds like razor blades on string to create pure tension, he almost creates this feel of a punk genre element when creating the sound for the joker but still keeping to the element od tenesion and without losing himself into the elements of punk or rock music. He was trying the create the most minimal thing but still tells exactly what Hans wanted. He wanted the spectator to hear the soundtrack and know that the joker was around somewhere. Hans would record loads of different sounds while Christopher would constantly ask him to play demo's for him.

Hans wanted something new from any other movie. He wanted the sound to immediately tell you that insanity was lurking around.  He also wanted the audience to despise the piece of music he created as its sole purpose was to theme a mad man.

I believe the final score worked incredibly well for the Joker in the Dark Knight. It creates the brand new sound that literally spells out insanity. It defiantly met the goals Hans was going for and has to be one of my favourite movie soundtracks out there.

X-Men Timetable

This timetable represents the 4 sound elements within the X-Men music, dialogue, sound effects, and voice over. By bringing the these elements together we create this flow within the movie which gives meaning and realism.

In this clip we never see voice overs and dialogue mix because this would great a clump of noise that the audience wouldn't understand. If you combine the two we wouldn't get the information from the movie to make sense of what's going on.

We get this constant sound of music which starts at the beginning of the clip and ends at the end of the clip, This creates a flow within the clip which cancels any dead scenes with no sounds e.g. shot of the school. Throughout the clip the music changes to match what's in the scene for example you would use quick music to show an action scene or you would use slow music to show a romantic scene.

Sound effects are the things which make the movie more realistic for example the ice coming from his hand would've look silly without the sound to tell the audience that this an ice beam. Usually sound is a lot quieter in real life but in movies they turn it up so that you can hear it and give you the feel that your actually there e.g. kid playing basketball.

Misfits Opening scene

Purpose of Sound
There are many different purposes for why sound is used in media products for example to entertain the audience. Firstly sound can be used to establish different characters personalities and backgrounds. This can be done by changing the characters vocabulary, accent, tone and volume e.g. cockney accent can be stereotypically tell the audience this guy comes from London and that he is lower class. Secondly sound can be used to establish the genre of the program and to set the tone of the programme.

Nathan

Vocabulary
When Nathan speaks during the opening scene he doesn't swear at all. This could suggest that he has been raised with some kind of manors even though he does insult his fellow workers. He seems intelligent but argumentative as he questions the probations workers very first question even though it wasn't suppose to be answered for example he answers with "what if they are right"? He just likes to be in the centre of attention and to mess around with other people.

Accent
Nathan is Irish (Republic of Ireland). Coming from another country and set in London we get this feeling like Nathan doesn't come from a class and that he doesn't belong. His accent is soothing and bouncy which fits quite nicely with his vocabulary as it may not create the same feeling with an English accent

Tone
Nathan is very sarcastic. I know this because he likes to tease the other members of the group especially Gary. He is also very clear on what he wants and doesn't have trouble speaking his mind for example a teasing Kelly's voice. Even though he can be rude to his workers it always seems like he is playing with them due to his playful voice.

Volume
Nathan has a strong clear voice which you can easily understand,  He starts talking straight immediately after the Probation Officer has finished talking to them about a fresh new start. This shows us how punctual Nathan is and how he would like to take charge of every conversation.

We can tell from these aspects that Nathan is the comedic one of the group who doesn't hesitate when it comes the time to tease his workers. All though he is a joker of the group he does show that he cares a little about the other member of the group for example his notices Simon and asks if he is all right even though its short lasted as he then calls him weird.

Aleisha

Aleisha's tone changes through out the scene to match the mood she is in. She is the looker of the group which stereotypically likes to flirt a lot with people and do what they like. When speaking we know she uses slang words which can represent urban backgrounds. Coming from an urban background she has picked up and urban accent with differs tones from time to time. While the probation worker is talking Aleisha is on the phone to one of her friends. This shows that she has no respect for the workers or probation  worker and especially doesn't want to be there.

Curtis

Vocabulary
When Curtis speaks we can tell that he uses street language but its sort of mixed with proper english as well which suggest that he could of has a good education but hangs around with some dodgy people. He uses street words to show that even though his quiet and mellow doesn't mean he can't get tough when needed.

 Accent
He comes from the UK so he doesn't really have any distinctive accents.

Tone
His tone is quiet low which shows that he is relaxed around the group and isn't looking for a shout of with Nathan. Also he seems laid back which could represent that he is the cool guy in the group.

Volume
Curtis volume is quite quiet while he speaks to the probation worker asking if he can change groups. This could suggest that he doesn't want any attention from anyone else.

Curtis is the laid back cool guy of the group. We know this because he doesn't speak unless he needs too. He tells the probation worker if he can change groups which suggested that he isn't looking for friends, he just wants to do his time unnoticed.

Simon

Simon is the quietest one in the group as he is the only one who doesn't talk. This shows that he doesn't fit in with these other people. In the clip he doesn't react to any other team members jokes which shows that he just wants to get on with it. Finally the only thing we can tell is that Simon is one big mystery.

Kelly

When Kelly speaks we can tell straight away that she is a stereotypical chav. When speaking her volume is very high but clear and she uses in proper use of the English language which Nathan picks up on and starts teasing her about. When defending herself she uses her loud voice to overcome any challenger which shows that she can stand up for her self. She has a slight Northern accent mixed with chav which can represent she has no class.

Gary

The first words we here from Gary are "You looking to get stabbed" which is stereotypically used by chavs and gangsters. This shows that Gary is aggressive and probably not well brought up. He uses words to make himself look tough for example he threatens Nathan by telling him that he will sh*t down his neck which shows that he uses words to attack people and he doesn't care who's around around to hear it e.g. the probation worker. We can tell that Gary is from a low class family as he doesn't have a many technical, scientific words in his vocabulary.
