P1. RESEARCH AND UNDERSTANDING GREEN SCREEN

Chroma Keying, otherwise known as Green Screening is a world known special effects/post production technique used to add visual effects such as backgrounds to create the scenery needed for example a waiter in Paris. This is done by placing the actor or presenter in front of a huge green screen and the top layer is then made to be transparent, which allows the background image to appear.

Green Screening saves a lot of money and is used frequently on TV and in films. On TV you will notice that the weather man is standing in front of a green screen which is made into a map revealing the weather to all that watch. There have been a lot of films which use green screen for example Marvel use it a lot to create scenery and effects such as The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit, The Avengers, and The Hulk. The Great Gatsby depended on VFX quite a bit to create extra scenery for their locations, for example the part where Toby and the other girl character are walking down the busy street talking about Gatsby. All the background used in that scene was created by VFX. In my opinion you could tell that is was created by VFX but its only noticeable when you focus on it instead of the characters.

As well as the green screen there was first the blue screen, which was created in the 1930's by RKO Radio Pictures, and was used to create the effect of (wipes) which was give the effect of window wipers on cars. It has been 83 years since the birth of the blue screen which has evolved into the green screen which allows more colours to show up easier.
